Namibia is famous for its desert coastline on the West side of the African continent where water and sand collide. An area called Sandwich Bay provides a break from the harsh ocean waves crashing directly on shore, creating a calm and private cove for the residence.
The design solution for this region was simple; we had a sea of water and a sea of sand, so naturally, our house wanted to be reminiscent of a yacht or ship, to sail along the edge of our two “seas.” A long stack of slightly curved planes defines the shape of our “boat.”
