We designed this building in order to take advantage of a unique setting on a barrier Island on the East Coastof southern Florida. The site itself is surrounded by preserved land, which provided the designwitha bufferbetween it and the surrounding structures to north and south. This feature allowed us to incorporate triangular,wedge-shaped lines that would have been lost within a more traditional, crowded coastal site plan. Eachwedge-shaped duplex providesits occupants with unobstructed views of the open Ocean to the east, and overand beyond the Inland Waterway to the west.Every room in each of the 24 units has a water view, with the tipof each wedge providing living and dining spaces with soaring 24’ ceilings, and dramatic folding walls that thatpivot so that the occupants can control the amount of light that enters the living spaces according to the angleof the Sun at any given point in time.
